Arts and Crafts through beer goggles?

Milwaukee is famous for beer and for its Calatrava-designed art museum on the waterfront. But the city also has some fine commercial buildings from late Victorian and Edwardian times. In one of which, I found possibly the weirdest newel-post ever.
