Grade 1 listed stump

This is not just any old rusty iron stump. It is a Grade 1 listed rusty iron stump, one of Victorian engineer Eugenius Birch’s patented screw-piles that originally supported Brighton’s West Pier.

That pier, following storms and arson, is now a marvellously evocative skeleton in the sea that is infinitely better than the run-down pier ever was in its final operational years. Please don’t restore it or demolish it - just leave it like this, to gracefully decay.
