Architects PCKO and Baca have been named joint winners in a competition to remodel five old barges in London into floating residential and commercial spaces that will challenge perceptions of waterspace design.
The winning schemes will be developed and delivered in a prominent location on the Isle of Dogs, in London’s Docklands as a ‘showcase of innovation in waterspace development’.
The Barge: Breathing new life into the Docklands contest was launched by British Waterways, in partnership with H20 Urban Ltd, to convert five spits barges as part of a wider initiative to revitalise the waterspace of London’s Docklands.
The shortlisted architects were BCA and Amin Taha and the winning proposals are currently on show in a New London Architecture exhibition.
BARGE: BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO DOCKLANDS
This exhibition celebrates the exciting concepts that have been submitted and shortlisted, as well as the winning designs. The competition entries demonstrate how creative design is essential to creating a living and active workspace in Docklands.
