Stop and stair

It’s a staircase that goes nowhere much, so nobody uses it. It’s at the back of Chamberlin Powell and Bon’s Golden Lane Estate, just north of the Barbican. Since all it does is connect street level to an unfrequented area basement, it’s probably a means of escape.  But it’s a damn fine central-spine concrete stair, delicately detailed by good architects. Somehow all the better for having gathered quite a bit of moss down the years. And check out those 1950s flint panels…
