RIBA Awards

The RIBA awards have been announced – all 89 of them. And in some practices there will be more rejoicing than in others.

Hopkins has won four awards – the most of any practice this year. One of them goes to a shopping centre Apex, Arc in Bury St Edmunds – a very few of these types of project that make as RIBA Awards winners. Hopkins top class Velodrome – surely a strong contender for the Stirling Prize – also, of course, has a place on the list. In Scotland Page\Park Architects produced two buildings in their esoteric but inimitable style while Edinburgh-based Sutherland Hussey designed its two winning projects - both different takes on quirky residential briefs - only a few miles from each other in the Lake District. Other double winners were Duggan Morris with a home and offices in London and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.
